It was 17 years ago today – also a Monday, by the way – that I opened my doors as a consultant. That was in Cincinnati; today I call Chicago home.
I wrote a simple mission statement that day – “To help good people build great brands.” Though my business has changed considerably in the intervening 6,209 days, that mission remains unchanged.
The success of this business has plenty of names in the “Without Whom” department:
My Clients. They’ve been the best bunch a guy could ask for – smart, principled, committed to business as a way to serve others, and really great dinner conversation.
My Partners. Whether I’m assembling a project team or needing perspective on a business issue, it’s great to have a network of people whose work and character I trust.
My Teachers. I’ve been fortunate to learn from some sharp minds in the course of my career. Without a few of them, I simply wouldn’t be here today.
My Support System. You know who you are. Thanks for being there.
Thank you all for making it possible for me to do what I love.
P.S. If the universe is listening, a great anniversary gift would be a US victory over Ghana in our World Cup opener today. Thanks in advance, Universe!
